Kayce Carter (Interior Design, ‘22) is designing a life she loves.
This talented alumna landed a job as a junior designer for Williamson Design Associates in Clearwater, FL. Her role encompasses preparing presentation drawings and models using rendering software and completing design and construction documents on schedule and within budget. As her design job is highly collaborative, Kayce enjoys developing solutions and working with her team to implement them.
Kayce says, “What I loved about ý was the smaller class sizes and having one-on-one time with my professors. I also loved the real-life experience I was able to gain through each class.”
Experienced interior designers visiting ý prepared Kayce
“ý prepared me for my career by having people from the Interior Design career field come and talk to us about their experience and what they have learned over the years. The support and advice from Career Services has also guided me.”
High school architecture program at ý set Kayce up for success
Ever since Kayce was a child, she loved design. Her high school offered a program called ACE (Architecture Construction and Engineering) after school at ý. Each week students completed a different project relating to architecture, construction, or engineering and were taught how and why certain structures were built. “My mentors were active in their field, so it was great to be able to get first-hand experience – all while exploring ý and everything it offers. The friends I made at ý made an impact on me and any advice given I took willingly.”
Clear direction in her new Florida home
With time and dedication to job searching, Kayce found her current role. Her career goals are to get her NCIDQ certification and her real estate license. “My biggest challenge so far is finding my place in a new state. Florida is always growing and developing so that’s what planted the idea to relocate there. It helped to figure out where I wanted to go and what companies would support me through my career growth.” You’re on your way, Kayce, and we’re proud of you!
